J. Durham and Associates conducted a greatly successful auction of the contents in the multi-storied historic Bainbridge Hardware Company in Bainbridge, Georgia. The two-day lot by lot auction sales event was highly publicized and J. Durham and Associates hosted three inspection/preview days prior to the auction. Record attendance led to a total liquidation of real estate, fixtures and all remaining inventory.
An icon in the community for over 100 years, Bainbridge Hardware was been owned and operated by the Lofton Willis family for 60 years. Inventory auctioned included hardware stock, guns and a large number of antiques, says Wally Binns, auction coordinator for J. Durham Auctions in Albany.
“The building was slam packed full of items to be auctioned,” said Binns, including three Model A Fords from 1930 and 1931 and a King Midget.
Originally housed in the 200 block of Broad Street, the Willis’ moved to the current location at 426 N. Broad St. in 1976. The three-story 40,000-square-foot Bainbridge Hardware Company building, constructed in the 1940s, originally housed a tobacco company, followed by several auto dealerships prior to its current use. The ground level featured an intricate ceramic tile pattern in what was once the floor of the dealership showroom.
