Over 20 years ago, J. Durham & Associates met with members of the Weinberg family about options for selling or auctioning their property in Quincy, Florida. A former shade tobacco farm and cattle ranch, the 812 acres had been in the Weinberg family since 1945.
“We initially contacted a Realtor in Albany and he said it was an ideal property for auction so he referred us to Joe,” said Neil Weinburg. “We talked to Joe around ‘85 and daddy decided he wasn’t quite ready to sell it. Once we thought the time was right, we contacted J. Durham and Associates.”
That’s when Joe Durham and his staff stepped in to get the ball rolling. The auction was planned, the date set and signs erected when something unusual took place. Neighbors, noticing the adjoining property was to be auctioned, got together to see if there was some way they could keep the Weinberg estate intact and under local ownership. Two people approached Joe Durham about buying the property outright prior to the auction.
“The Weinberg family is very community oriented and wanted to maintain the local ownership as well, so they gave us permission to start negotiating with these two individuals to arrive at a fair market price and the rest is history,” says Durham.
The property sold to the two adjacent property owners for $4.2 million, a price with which Neil Weinberg was very pleased.
“People should seriously consider the auction method and call J. Durham & Associates if they are ready to sell and want to do something right away. If you just put a for sale sign out you’ll be waiting for a long time. This is a quick way to get something moving, J. Durham & Associates is highly recommended”, adds Weinberg.
